In Ukrainian markets, there is a continued downward trend in tomato prices, EastFruit analysts share information. Even before the holidays, demand for products remained small.
Manufacturers defended high prices for their product, but merchants were forced to review and reduce them due to a seasonal increase in the number of offers. Currently, Ukrainian greenhouse farms ship tomatoes at a price not exceeding 40-45 UAH / kg ($ 1.53-1.72 / kg), which is 21% less than in the last days of April.
A serious competition for local products is imported cheaper tomatoes from Turkey and Poland, which is offered at 30 UAH / kg ($ 1.14 / kg).Due to the attractive price of imported products, Ukrainian buyers often make a choice in their favor. Meanwhile, samples of vegetables in domestic greenhouses are constantly increasing. There is almost no demand for a product on the foreign market, because manufacturers are forced to sell it domestically.
It is worth noting that the current prices for tomato of Ukrainian greenhouse plants are 16% higher than in early May of last year. At the same time, local producers do not exclude that tomato prices will continue to fall.According to them, if such low sales rates are maintained, they will have to lower prices in order to prevent the accumulation of large volumes of goods in warehouses.
