Employees of the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the Kherson Region first carried out in vitro rehabilitation of crocus bulbs in vitro.
Ukrainian farmers are happy to experiment on growing crocuses. From the stamens of these flowers make one of the most expensive spices in the world - saffron. For 1 g of saffron, you can get $ 5, or even more.
It’s easy to grow crocuses. You can not invest in irrigation and agricultural chemistry. But not all farmers know that crocus, like any other plant introduced into the culture, can be affected by various diseases of a fungal, viral and bacterial nature. Such diseases can cause significant damage to crocus plantations, as a result of which the precious crop will be lost.To minimize losses due to illnesses, the specialists of the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine near Kherson for the first time healed the crocus bulbs (saffron) by the in vitro method, that is, in vitro.
After the healing procedure, the plants will be planted in a separate area, and next year, scientists expect their flowering. Researchers express the hope that healthy plants will be able to produce a large crop. 50 thousand UAH of budget funds have already been allocated for the project, said the head of the laboratory of the institute, doctor of agricultural sciences Galina Balashova.
