Swaffham, a commercial city and civil district in the Norwegian county of Norfolk, is preparing to host the annual Sheep Fair.
On Saturday, May 25, the event is declared a holiday of “everything connected with wool,” with a demonstration of rare sheep, a demonstration of spinning and weaving, and much more.
Advisor Jill Skinner, mayor of Swaffham, said the fair is becoming an annual event for the city and added: “We are very pleased to host the Swaffham Sheep Fair again this year - marking all the best that is in the past and present of Swaffham.”This year, local farmers and artisans will have the opportunity to get to know sheep better. Visitors, young and old, will be able to learn about British sheep breeds and what makes them so special.
Spinners and weavers will hold demonstrations, and visitors will be able to try their hand at the loom. Both in the market and in urban butchers, it will be possible to buy meat from local and rare breeds of domestic animals. At the end of the day, a “fictitious auction” of some sheep will be held, and the proceeds will go to charity. Last year, the first sheep fair in 60 years took place in the city, and now the organizers decided to revive the tradition. The sheep fair will be held from 8:00 to 15:00.
