Starting from 2022, electronic identification of sheep and goats will be introduced in Ukraine.
By this time, it is planned to provide the owners of animals with electronic tags of good quality, make changes to the information database of the Unified State Register of Animals (hereinafter referred to as the Animal Register) that will fix the electronic identifier code and establish data exchange between livestock management programs and the Animal Register. This was reported in the State Food and Beverage Service.
So, on July 5, 2019, Order No. 263 of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine of May 22, 2019 “On Approving Amendments to the Procedure for the Identification and Registration of Sheep and Goats”, registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on June 11, 2019 under No. 601/33572, entered into force. (hereinafter - the Changes), after its official publication in the publication "Official Gazette of Ukraine" No. 51.
Electronic tags will be introduced only for sheep and goats born in 2022. The replacement of conventional plastic tags already installed on animals with tags with a radio frequency identifier is not expected.
The introduction of electronic identification of sheep and goats will allow:
- to facilitate the conduct of veterinary and sanitary measures for the prevention (prevention), treatment and elimination of infectious, invasive and non-communicable diseases;
- to facilitate and accelerate the conduct of veterinary and sanitary control and supervision of the livestock of sheep and goats, it will allow the use of special scanners for reading electronic identification numbers of animals and transferring the generated electronic list of animals to another computer tool for working with it;
- to provide state authorities and owners / holders of animals with reliable information about sheep and goats;
- integrate into the pan-European market for livestock products;
- will strengthen control over the veterinary and sanitary state, quality and origin of livestock products.
