African agriculture is not mechanized enough. The system already has 374 tractors.
Emmanuel Ansa-Amprofi from Ghana is building a platform for the exchange of agricultural machinery and used tractors.
He is a farmer and co-founder of the Trotro Tractor Ghanaian tractor sharing platform. He reports on negotiations with local farmers: “If they learn that I am from agriculture, then the farmers will listen to me.”
Emmanuel, 39, along with Kamals Dean Yakub (36) and 13 employees in Accra, developed an online platform as an exchange service. Farmers can order and pay for tractors and attachments over the phone.
It is envisaged that the machines that are closest to the customer will be sent to the call. Owners of equipment will be able to track its movement thanks to GPS tracking. A trained driver usually comes with a tractor.
Farmers pay about $ 26 for processing 1 acre (2.4 acres = 1 ha.) With a tractor and implement. Trotro Tractor collects a commission of 10%. Payment is mobile. The so-called "Mobile money" the client sends and receives via mobile phone.
Not every farmer in Ghana has a smartphone. And often the Internet is not fast enough. Given this, the service also works through a speed dial system.
