Vologda experts concluded that over the past three decades in the Vologda Oblast the number of cattle has significantly decreased.
The situation has reached a critical point, given that thirty years ago the region had four times more cattle than today.
And while in the early nineties Vologda farmers kept about 613 thousand cows and other representatives of cattle, today the number of cattle is only about 166 thousand individuals. There are three times less cows in the region that has long been considered the most “dairy” in Russia. In 1990, the region had 253 thousand cows. Today, in 2019, the total regional indicator fell to 77 thousand cows. As for the pigs, in 1990 there were about 280 thousand of them in the Vologda Oblast. Today's statistics indicate that in the region no more than 52 thousand pigs.
If we talk about the number of sheep, then a catastrophically sad picture emerges: thirty years ago, in the Vologda flocks there were 198 thousand individuals. Today there are only 13 thousand sheep in the Vologda Oblast. Today, experts from the region’s livestock and agriculture experts understand the situation and identify the reasons for the decrease in the total number of cattle in the Vologda region.Share
