Farmers of the Kherson region are increasingly refusing to raise chickens and sell eggs because of expensive feeds and fears of “chicken flu”. Farms are reducing the number of cattle and pigs.
Since the beginning of 2019, currently in the Kherson region there are 4,740.5 thousand heads of birds for the entire region, the press service of the Kherson regional state administration reports.
The number of eggs sold was reduced by 40%. During the year, a total of 116.1 million eggs were received. Such a beginning shortage may serve as an impetus for the increase in the cost of chicken for the buyer. The agricultural production index of the Kherson region in January-February 2019 amounted to 96.2%, when compared with the same period in 2018. At the enterprises, the index was at the level of 75.4%, households showed 107.2%.
Farms began to intensify cattle for meat. This process affected pig stocks even more. Decline has not yet touched milk production. Even 0.7% more products were produced than in the same period of 2018. Earlier it was reported that due to a reduction in the number of cattle in the first two months of this year, its number is currently 3.5 million heads.
