The Wales union warned that plans to plant more than 20 million trees could harm local farmers.
The National Fund wants to create by 2030 18,000 hectares (44,478 acres) of new forests through Wales, England and Northern Ireland.
The organization said it would work on the project because it wants to increase the proportion of its land covered with trees from 10 to 17%. It is estimated that 1,000 to 2,000 ha (2,471–4,942 acres) of new forests will be planted under this scheme in Wales.
Glyn Roberts, president of the Farmers Union, said he feared pastures might be lost to achieve the goal. He noted that he feared for the farmers.
Since in rural areas, forestry can have a negative impact on farmers, food production and the community.

Additional forests will help block up to 300,000 tons of carbon. This is equivalent to generating 37,000 homes a year.
