The meat products, which are fraught with the insidious and notorious worldwide virus of African swine fever, were found in the UK.
Such information was shared by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, referring to data released by the authoritative publication “The Guardian”.
In particular, it is reported that this case is unprecedented for Britain, since not a single case of infection of animals or products of animal origin with ASF virus has been recorded on the territory of this island.
So, it became known that last month a passenger arrived in one of the seaports of Northern Ireland, who brought with him about three hundred kilograms of various farm provisions - meat and milk.
The luggage of the tourist was seized and subjected to a thorough analysis in the laboratory. As a result of research, it turned out that the meat component of the seized baggage was literally “stuffed” with the African swine fever virus.
This information was confirmed by the conclusion of independent experts of the Institute of Agricultural Food and Biological Disciplines in the city of Belfast.
As soon as the presence of the ASF causative agent was confirmed, representatives of the UK Department of Environmental Protection immediately established the most severe control at customs points at sea, land and air ports, which monitors the entry of meat products to the island.
It is also known that the department intends to establish mass social campaigns, the main task of which is to urge citizens to be vigilant when importing meat into the country.
