Based on the data released recently by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China, over the past year, from July 2018 to early August 2019, the number of pigs in the country fell by more than thirty-two percent.
It is not difficult to guess that the reason was the actively spreading virus (both in China and on the planet as a whole) of the African swine fever virus.
It is no secret that the Chinese until recently were considered the world's largest suppliers of pork and pigs in live weight. However, now the situation has changed radically. It is known that the number of Chinese sows per year decreased by almost thirty-two percent - the insidious virus proceeded across the entire territory of China, not sparing a single Chinese province.
In turn, experts of the UN food organization note that between August 1, 2018 and August 1, 2019, one hundred fifty-four foci of infection with African swine fever were recorded in the vastness of China.
During the same period, as part of the elimination of sick animals and in the process of implementing preventive measures, about one million two hundred thousand pigs were destroyed.
Obviously, this state of affairs could not but affect the pricing policy. And today the cost of pigs in China breaks all the records known to the country - over twenty-four and a half yuan per kilogram (about three and a half dollars per kilo).
As a result, in the first six months of this year, the profit indicator fell by seventeen percent, according to the Chinese processing company WH Group.
