Today in the country there is not a single representative of the Mirgorod breed and the big black.
It has long been no secret for professional agricultural workers that pig breeding in Europe has been moving forward by leaps and bounds. Nikolay Berezovsky, an employee of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine at the Pig Institute, is also aware of this. According to Nikolay, against the background of the achievements of foreign colleagues, Ukrainian pig farmers look less impressive. At least due to the fact that the pork population in the country has decreased significantly.
“Eight years ago we had at least ninety breeding pig farms,” recalls Berezovsky. “If we compare it with the current state of affairs, the situation is dire: at the moment in Ukraine there are only 48 such plants. As you can see, we have reduced the speed by almost half. ”
According to Nikolai Berezovsky, the fact that two pork breeds are immediately exterminated in our country is exaggerated. According to the researcher, the extinction of these species is a real tragedy for domestic pig farming.
“This was the first Ukrainian breed,” Nikolay complains. “And we lost it because of the African swine fever virus.” This happened about three months ago. And even though we are now trying to find the lost breeds abroad and replenish the herds, the problem is very acute. ”Berezovsky adds that the breeding representatives of the large black breed have also disappeared.
“All pigs of this species died after the ASF virus broke out in the Poltava region and the plant had to be shut down. For the same reason, one pig farm was also closed in the Donetsk region. ”
How to find a way out of this situation - at the moment, the best specialists of Ukraine are finding out.
