The reason for the decrease in the volume of harvested areas is adverse weather conditions, which destroy crops of winter crops.
According to forecasts, the harvesting area may be reduced from 5.88 million hectares of the January estimate to 5.57 million hectares of the current forecast. This figure is 18% less than last year (6.8 million hectares) and at the same time it is the lowest indicator over the past 5 years.
It is expected that the largest volume of harvested areas will be reduced in Romania and Bulgaria - by 54% and 40%, respectively. In addition, a decrease in the volume of land will occur in the main rapeseed producing countries in the European Union. In Germany, the area will decrease by 29% per year, in France the expected decrease - by 23%, in Poland - by 4%.
As already noted, rapeseed is used in the metallurgical, soap, leather and textile industries. It is used in the production of various technical oils and biofuels, as well as detergents and cosmetics. The high content of protein, fats, nitrogen-free extractive substances, after removing harmful glycosides from it, makes it possible to widely use rapeseed in animal husbandry as a food base for various mixed feeds and premixes. The food industry uses rape in the preparation of margarine, as well as various dishes.
