The dairy giant Glanbia Ireland paid directly to 4,500 supplier farmers from all over rural Ireland for about 1 billion euros, including VAT, last year.
In total, a total of EUR 14.8 million was paid to members of the Glanbia cooperative. These data were announced by the company's CEO Jim Bergin at a meeting of members of the Glanbia cooperative on May 29.
During the year, Kilkenny County supplying farmers received € 168 million, Waterford farmers paid € 149 million, and € 124 and 122 million, respectively, were paid to suppliers from Tipperary and Wexford counties.
“A 5.1% increase in milk deliveries in 2018 was worth more than 47 million euros last year, which, in turn, affected the economy of rural Ireland and the farms of our suppliers,” said Bergin.
2.7 billion liters of milk are delivered annually to the Glanbia Ireland cooperative, and in 2019, milk deliveries reached 88 million per week.
Group Chairman Martin Keen said 100% of the milk currently comes from dairy farms accredited as part of the Bord Bia Sustainable Dairy Scheme.
